Visa Requirements – A Guide for Artists and Delegates

This information was prepared for artists, their supporting members and delegates who attended WOMEX 13 Cardiff.

General Information

If you wish to come to the UK for WOMEX 13, including as any of the following:

- Artist
- Member of supporting crew
- Conference Speaker
- Delegate

You may need a visa to enter the UK. Please select the links below for more information.

You will also need to show:

- if you are attending WOMEX as an artist, delegate, speaker, or member of support crew
- that you intend to leave the UK after the event and
- that you are able to support yourself whilst in the UK

• Advice on documents you will need to produce to apply for any visa

When applying for your visa you will also need your letter of introduction received from WOMEX when you registered when applying for your visa and confirmation of any travel and accommodation arrangements.

What type of visa do I need?

If you are part of a group or band, each member of the group must apply for their own visa. There are no discounts on the standard visa fees for groups.

Delegates, Conference Speakers and non-performing Artists

If you are attending as a delegate only, or as a Speaker at the WOMEX 13 Conference, or as an artist but not involved in any performances before, during or after the event, you will require a Business Visitor Visa. Please select the link below for more information.

Performing Artists and their Supporting Crew

Are you being paid for any performances whilst in the UK?


No

If you are attending as an artist or as part of the artist’s supporting crew and:

- are only performing at the WOMEX 13 Cardiff event itself, and
- not carrying out any other paid work including performances before or after the event

you will need an Entertainer Visitor Visa. Please select the link below for more information.

Yes

If you are an artist and are being paid for any performances whilst you are in the UK for WOMEX 13, including any performances you may have arranged before or after the event, including the WOMEX Legacy Tour, you will need a Tier 5 Creative Worker Visa. Before applying for this you will need to ask your UK host to issue you with a Certificate of Sponsorship. If you do not have these documents you will not be able to carry out any paid work during your stay in the UK. Further information on these may be found at the link below.
